How to Clean & Care For Jade

Daily Jade Care Tips
When wearing jade, be careful not to hit the stone as it may easily crack or chip. Chlorine, which is often added to water in pools and to tap water, can be harmful to jade, so make sure you take off your jade jewelry before you swim or take shower. Its best to avoid contact of jade with makeup, perfume, hairspray, and other chemicals that may have an adverse effect on the stone's surface.
Cleaning
Light Cleaning
Our beloved jewelry pieces is contactable with most everyday chemicals is inevitable such as soap, lotions, perfumes etc. It will not damage your jade beyond repair, but they will alter the lustre of its surface over time. As such, we recommend avoiding such exposure wherever possible and daily light cleaning after each wear.
Light cleaning using a dry soft cotton pads, microfiber towel or lint-free cloth to gently wipe the surface of the jade after each wear minimises build up of everyday dirt and grime. You should also avoid using steam cleaners or ultrasonic jewelry cleaners.
Deep Cleaning
When you feel that the jade piece could do with some extra love, perhap is time to give it's a "SPA".
Mix together warm water and mild soap. Fill a bowl that’s large enough to contain your jade piece with warm water. Add two or three drops of mild, alcohol-free dish or hand soap, then mix until the soap has dissolved completely.
Soak and gently scrub your jade. Place your jade piece in the solution-filled bowl and let it soak for up to one minute. Scrub the piece gently with a soft brush or microfiber towel. Use small, circular motions and avoid pressing too hard.
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush for tight spaces. If you’re cleaning a ring or other piece of jewelry with tight spaces, you can use a toothbrush to clean out nooks and crannies. Dip the brush in the cleaning solution and gently scrub around the setting.
Rinse the piece under warm water. After you’ve washed your jade, rinse off any soap residue under warm, running water. Try to keep the running water around the same temperature as the cleaning solution.
When cleaning jewelry at home, you should avoid sudden radical temperature changes.
Storage
As far as storage is concerned, keep jade separate from other gemstones as it can get easily scratched. If you have no choice but to put it with others stones, be sure to wrap the jade in a soft cloth.
Maintenance
The value of jade can maintained if the jade receives proper care. Avoid household detergents or jewelry cleaners that contain harsh chemicals. Never put the stone in water and freeze the jade, doing so poses a risk of damaging the internal structure of jade -- if liquid (residual, or in the environment etc) seeps through the jade’s porous “skin” and freezes inside the jade, it would expand in volume, put a strain on the crystal structure of the jade. This may in turn cause cracks or breakages to occur.
